WHEN BOBBY COMES SUCKING BLOOD AGAIN
(To the tune of When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again)
by Fly 07 Poet Laureate, Aaron Aardvark (nom de rame of Musca Senesca)

When Bobby comes sucking blood again
Oh morde me!
We’ll give him a hearty slapping then
Oh go away!
The men will swear and the boys will fart
Good old Jeffrey will jump the start
And we’ll all feel grim
When Bobby comes sucking blood.

The starter’s horn will oink and bleat
Oh morde me!
As we marinate in Off and Deet
Oh go away”
The rowing lads and lassies say
Black fly corpses will strew the way
And we’ll all feel grim
When Bobby comes sucking blood.

Get ready for the start line’s entropy
Oh morde me!
We’ll swat that loathsome flying flea
Oh go away!
Remember now, it’s just our luck
They don’t just bite, they also suck
And we’ll all feel grim
When Bobby comes sucking blood.

Pestilence
(With apologies to Bonnie and her ocean)
Fly 07 Poet Laureate Winner, C. B. Hamlin, E. L. Kennelly

The Black Fly’s a terrible menace
They bite and they chew with great glee.
Deep gouges and pock marks are remnants
For those who are slow when they flee.

Chorus

Morde, morde, oh why do they always bite me, bite me?
Morde, morde, o why do they always bite me?

Far worse than the locusts of Pharoah,
They’ll eagerly eat your first born,
And Comerford Dam will run bloody
The Fate of slow scullers they scorn.

Chorus

To escape a death by consumption
Row faster than th’ buggers can fly.
Four miles through unparted waters
Fresh eggs and sweet honey be thine.

Chorus

The Finish is farther than hoped for,
As quads and latissimi burn.
Oh why did we come in the first place?
Let’s vow we shall never return!

THE BATTLE HYMN OF THE NORTHEAST KINGDOM, by Fly 06 Poet Laureate, John Turner

Black Flies have seen the glory of the sculling of the horde, From the swarming at the starting line to Gatorade aboard; No truce abates the biting of Bob's terribly swift oars, Uncouth is lurching on

(chorus)

Morde me, Black Flies'll chew ya! Way enough, we'll bite right through ya! Come what may, we're gonna do ya! Uncouth is lurching on!

Some Flies will tell the story of the mulling of the board, After sampling ample pintage in the many nights before, O'er the fitful bits of rhyming by the poets on the shore; Uncouth is lurching on!

(chorus)

After Tom describes the silliness he deems a protocol, We'll wade into the shallows with our vessels one and all; Our mighty fleet will flounder out to hear the morning call; Uncouth is lurching on!

(chorus)

The line is rather vague along our bows all come to rest, As we muster up the courage to endure the coming test; We know that by the end we'll all have done our very best; Uncouth is lurching on!

(chorus)

Upon the fiery shot rung out to fill the morning air, A maelstrom of motion and a thrashing here and there; We're off in hopes of finishing to win a honey bear; Uncouth is lurching on!

(chorus)

And when we're done reflecting on the floating of dead Flies, Amidst the gloating grins and groans and moans and weary sighs; We'll turn for home where praise awaits our glorifying lies! Uncouth is lurching on!

Morde me, Black Flies'll chew ya! Way enough, we'll bite right through ya! Come what may, we're gonna do ya! Uncouth is lurching on!

Fly 05 Poet Laureate Winner, Gayle Simmons - Central Falls, RI

Blackfly, the thing with wings
That percheth on my back
I twist and swat
This way and that
But still he doth attack

Blackfly, the evil winged one
He sucketh the blood of all
Who scull and sweep
All left to weep
When blackfly he doth call

Blackfly, the enemy of man
Wicked to those he doth leave to sob
Echoes of their tormented cries
Their screams filling all the skies
His friends simply call him Bob.

Fly 04 Poet Laureate Winner, Alesandra Fischetti - Munroe, CT

There was a great oarsman of lore
Who suggested I pull on his oar
It thrilled me completely,
I pulled it so sweetly
and came back each morning for more.

Fly 03 Poet Laureate Winner, Mark Eagle - East Montpelier, VT

YO!
I will taper hard
Like Jimi, Janis, Jerry & Jim.
I will taper hard like a death row inmate.
I will taper hard like a red-headed stepchild.
I will taper...
HARD!
